Zalgiris vs Anadolu Efes (By: Miyagi)
Zalgiris, who lost their last EL match against CSKA, comes from an upset against Neptunas and its the first time since November that they have lost back to back games. They have some issues with injuries recently as they miss some experienced and important players for their rotation: guard Westerman and C Kavialiauskas with more important, defensively, being the one of Kavaliauskas who is a strong big guy who takes over the battles under the baskets and usually leaves his 'marks' on his opponents.
Efes is in good shape recently, they have won their last 3 games while they scored at least 93 points in each of those. I had my bets on the over in their last game (vs Istanbul) and I happened to watch it. Well, Istanbul was in front for the biggest part of that game and with not much resistance from Efes, though their individual quality made the difference in the end, with K.Simon getting hot late in the game and scoring non stop big shots from beyond the arc (8-11 3P, 31p) but it was a much tougher game for Efes than the final score indicates.
Both teams have great offenses: Zalgiris averages 81.6ppg, Efes averages 86.5ppg. Zalgiris is a well-coached team that works a lot in the offense and takes the best shots available while Efes on the other side is more sloppy at times but gets away with it since they have too many individuals with great quality.
Zalgiris' home games have higher scores compared to their games on the road. Against Efes' struggling defense which allows 85 points per game on the road, a well oiled machine like Zalgiris should be able to do some damage, while, on the other hand, Efes is tougher to predict but whether it will be Larkin, Beaubois, Micic, Pleis, Moerman, Anderson, Simon or Dunston, the only sure thing is that they have too much quality and they will also do some serious damage to Zalgiris.
