St. Mirren vs Spartans (By: TFB)
These are usually the match-ups to look out for in Scotland as they often offer some value. Here we have a Premiership side playing a non-league side on home soil.
St Mirren were very impressive last season as they strolled to the Championship title. The main reason was their excellent home form and they are going to need home points if they are to survive in the Premiership this coming season.
Their first game in this comp was a decent 0-0 draw at Kilmarnock and to be honest they can count themselves unlucky they didn't win in 90 minutes. They did go on to win the shoot-out however which gives them the bonus point.
Spartans were also involved in a 0-0 draw at home to Dumbarton but missed out in the shoot-out. Spartans won the Lowland League last season but missed out on the promotion play-off after being soundly beaten by Cove, the Highland champions.
The difference between League Two and non-league is big enough to not back the underdog, the difference between Premiership and non-league is vast. St Mirren will win, it's just by how many.
Some results to note from the first weekend.
Stirling (L2) 0 - 4 Dundee (Prem)
Inverness (Champ) 2 - 0 Cove (NL)
Ross (Champ) 2 - 0 Elgin (L2)
