Kilmarnock vs St. Mirren

Scottish football is back tonight as the League Cup kicks off at Rugby Park where Kilmarnock will face newly promoted side St Mirren.

Kilmarnock turned a huge corner last season when Steve Clarke took over at the end of the year. From their remaining 11 league home games they won 9, beating Celtic and Rangers and only failing to beat Hibernian and Aberdeen, the other 2 top 4 teams.

Kris Boyd won't be available for this match but they showed last season they have goals elsewhere. Brophy, Mulumbu, Jones & Erwin can also contribute and with Killie holding onto their main players over the summer they should have another top half finish this season.

St Mirren comfortably won the Scottish Championship last season, largely down to their home form as they won the vast majority of games in Paisley. Their star player was Lewis Morgan but he has since been sold to Celtic so it remains to be seen how they cope without him.

St Mirren could well struggle again in Scotland's top division and providing Kilmarnock carry on from where they left off last season they should win this match.
