Dundalk vs Cork City FC

The Irish season is starting to take shape now after the first few games and already we have an early clash between the two big guns of Irish football as leaders Cork City travel to Dundalk.

Dundalk had a slow start to the season with two 0-0 draws against Bray Wanderers and Shamrock Rovers. The home draw against Bray was a big surprise as Bray are widely tipped for relegation this season and Dundalk often make light work of weak opponents on home soil. They did kick into gear last time out with an 8-0 win over Limerick but the jury is out on how well Limerick will perform this season, certainly a potential candidate for relegation.

Pre-season they lost their top scorer David McMillan to St Johnstone but have brought back Pat Hoban to the club, a player who scored a lot of goals for Dundalk 4 or 5 years ago before leaving for England. He has started with 2 goals in 3 games so service resumed maybe?

Cork City are the current champions or Ireland despite a huge wobble towards the end of last season. This coincided with losing top scorer Sean Maguire to Preston but this season they have brought back Graham Cummins from St Johnstone who also scored a lot of goals during his last spell at the club. Like Hogan, he seems to have carried on from where he left off with 4 goals from 2 league games including a hat-trick against Sligo.

Cork have started this season like they started last season, basically beating everyone in their path including a pre-season cup match against Dundalk where they won 4-2 at Oriel Park.

This could be the Hogan vs. Cummins show but at these odds there is no reason why the league leaders can't avoid defeat.
