The NFL is one of four major professional sports leagues in North America, being the highest professional level of American football as a sport in the world.

The regular part of the season consists of 17-week and from early in September till late December. Each team plays sixteen matches and has one bye week.

After the regular part of the season, six teams from each conference advance to the playoffs. These are four division winners and two wild-card teams.

Single elimination tournament ends with the Super Bowl which is usually held in the first Sunday in February.

It's a game between the champions of NFC and AFC. The Super Bowl is now considered as unofficial American national holiday and is frequently the most-watched American television broadcast of the year.

Betting options & Sportsbook rules

The NFL is one of the world's most popular sports and attracts huge amounts of money in betting every season. Therefore, there is a huge variety in betting options for each game played.

Some of the most popular betting options are: money line (picking a winner between the two sides), line handicap (or also known as spread betting, handicap betting, or spread line handicap betting), total points (same as in basketball betting, accumulation of points of both teams in one match).

Other betting options would be divided into period betting, similar to the ones we have in basketball.

Therefore, a punter may choose to make a wager on a quarter winner, quarter spread betting or quarter total points betting. Same goes for all four quarters, as well as for the halftime bets.

Most of the reputable sportsbooks have all of their rules inside the whole sportsbook rulebook. You still need to check these and avoid negative surprise such as a bookie not counting overtime when settling its bets.
