Minnesota Timberwolves vs Charlotte Hornets prediction
Game: Minnesota – Charlotte
Bet: Karl Anthony Towns over 26.5
Timberwolves are hosting Hornets on Wednesday.
Minnesota started the season pretty well, but soon returned to their mediocre ways and it seems it’s going to be another disappointing season for them, as they rank 14th in Western conference with a poor 16-36 record. They have just 1 win in their last 10 games and that was a surprise win against Clippers. They were very active at the trade deadline as only notable players that stayed at the club are Towns, Culver and Okogie. Newcomers are Russell, Beasley, Johnson, Hernangomez, Turner and Spellman, while Wiggins, Covington, Napier, Bates-Diop and Dieng are playing elsewhere. Russell is a proven commodity and Beasley is playing well in his first games with the Wolves, but overall, I think this team is a bit worse with these additions. Stat wise, they play fast, ranking 6th in pace and 13th in points scored, while allowing 4th most points to opponents. For this game, Layman and Spellman are out.
Charlotte is another team from the bottom side of the league. They rank 12th in East, with 17-36 record. Their form is also bad with 2 wins in last 10 games. In the offseason they’ve lost Walker and replaced him with Rozier, who is solid but nowhere near Walker quality wise. So, before the season began, I thought they will battle it out with Cleveland for the title of the worst team in the NBA. They are a bit better than I thought. Especially sophomore Graham is playing great, Bridges is showing signs of potential, rookie Washington had his moments and Rozier is solid. Other than that, their roster is poor, with big holes under the rim, where Zeller is their starting C. They rank last in pace, last in points scored and 14th in points allowed. Their D is okay on the perimeter, but as I said, they have huge problems under the rim as they rank 3th worst at guarding PF and 5th worst at guarding C.
There is one thing that hasn’t changed for Minnesota since the trade deadline. Before the trades and after them, Towns is still their main star and first scoring option. He is actually having a bit of a cold stretch right now with 22 ppg in his last 4 games. But overall, he’s having his best statistical season yet as he’s averaging 26.5 ppg. The main difference from past seasons is his 3pt shooting as he averages 7.9 3pt attempts (makes 3.3), compared to 4.6 last season (his previous high mark). Charlotte is really bad in the paint. He played against them once this season and scored 37 and I think today is the day, he brakes his mini slump and goes over 30 again.
