Lillard’s past 6 games:
51 Points, 12 Assists, 2 Rebounds
48 Points, 10 Assists, 9 Rebounds
36 Points, 11 Assists, 12 Rebounds
50 Points, 12 Assists, 6 Rebounds
47 Points, 8 Assists, 6 Rebounds
61 Points, 7 Assists, 10 Rebounds.
Ridiculous, that's what it is! Lillard is making history every time he steps on the court recently, and by now, he is the first player to average at least 49p and 10 assists over a 6 game stretch and the scariest thing is that he shows no signs of slowing down!
After his last game (51p against Utah), he said: “I’ve never been in this type of rhythm in my life”. He also talked about stepping up and the things that he does off the court recently (extra sleep, better hydration, better preparation for games) and what I understand is that this guy is on mission right now. I've read some reports on how Ariza's trade was actually an attempt from the Blazers to dump contracts in order to dodge the luxury tax. That usually means that a team is throwing in the towel and the GM is looking forward to the next season. Well, apparently Lillard is not having that!
Right now Lillard is unstoppable and he doesn't even look tired, so why would they change their game plan? It makes no sense, so, expect him to continue to do what he does, at least for as long as he has the energy.
Apart from the fact that he is shooting lights out and has no range as of late (https://streamable.com/cmczx you can take a look at this) which makes it impossible for his opponents to even contain him, today he also has a favorable matchup. The Nuggets' main issue has been rim protection and efficiently guarding the perimeter, which is something that Lillard can exploit with his powerful drives to the basket by finishing or drawing fouls. Also, Murray is expected to return to action today and Lillard had already abused him in their previous meeting this season (32p, 47% FG) and probably will do it once again.
This is not a small line, definitely, but most of the Blazers' players have tough matchups today and it's up to Lillard to continue to carry his team and keep them in playoff contention.
