Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros (By: Mulder)
I think odds are a little too high on the Rangers and altough the odds dropped rightly so, we have still a playable line and here is why..
LHP Valdez will start for the Astros. He is 3-4 with a 4.57 ERA> 8.14 K/9 and a shaky 3.77 for command altough i like his 59.4 GB%. He had solid stretch of outings but in his last two outings he allowed 11 runs and that just in 6.1 innings at work.
Moreover, he pitched two times here in Arlington Texas already. The first time in April when he allowed 2 runs in two innings and later in that month he allowed one run here in 2 innings at work, BUT with a much worse 7.01 xFIP that outing, whichshows you how lucky he was.
Some changes in his split too:
Verus lefties: .244 SLG> .247 wOBA
Versus Righties: .434 SLG> .329 wOBA
On the road even a much worse .558 SLG ( .396 wOBA ) versus righties.
This Rangers team have a dangerous Righty team with a couple of righties who hit lefties really well: Andrus ( .330 wOBA vs LHP ), De Shields ( .320 wOBA Vs LHP ), Forsythe and Cabrera who can switch.
The Rangers are 15-10 as a home dog this season.
On the other side we will see Lance Lynn on the mound for the Rangers. The Rightie is 11-4 and the Rangers are 8-1 at home when he is on the mound. He posted a 3.91 ERA, but same story as i mentioned last week against the Halos ( where he got the job done ), he deserves better with a 9.63 K/9, 2.03 BB/9, 0.78 HR/9.
At home he pitched better much better than his 4.37 ERA is showing us with a 1.72 BB/9, 0.78 HR/9.
He pitched seven innings this season in Houston and allowed 3 runs. In his career, he is 4-2 against Houston with a 2.20 ERA.
Hence backing the Rangers, for the 1st 5 innings as i do not want a battle against that solid Houston bullpen, also because we have to see how deep Valdez will go.
