American League vs National League (By: Mulder)
All-Star game MLB.
The last seasons i gave the AL the edge and they won the 6 last times. This year however that National League looks stronger than ever, so i give them a good chance with Yelich ( questionable ), Bellinger, Bell and Acuna Jr.
Unlike most US sports, the All-Star game is all about defensive skills . And i love that, maybe even more than offense as Pitchers steal the show.
Justin Verlander will start for the AL. Stuff wise he should not be the starter as he pitched worse than his 2.98 ERA is showing us. In the last 2 outings for example he allowed a total of 8 runs.
Of course, he is pitching super solid with a 10.87 K/9, 1.92 BB/9, but it is not the Justin that won the World Series.
How deep will Alex Cora go anyway with Justin? My experience learns that every manager acts differents. With a couple of quik outs he might eat a couple of innings but i have seen also many times that a starter goes just one inning.
Cole, Berrios, Giolito , Means, Tanaka are all ready to back him up while i expect Chapman, Hand, Greene and Hendriks for the later innings.
On the other side a pitcher who totally earns to start here. LHP Ryu has been amazing with a 1.73 ERA and a solid 8.17 K/9. His command is one of the best i have ever seen: 0.83 BB/9 and he does not allow many homeruns: 0.83 HR/9, while his 50.7 GB% is super solid as well.
That NL Bullpen is looking better to me as well with Alcantara, deGrom, Buehler, Gray, Kershaw, Smith, Soroka, Vazquez, Woodruff and Yates.
Note also that Progressive field is not a very hitters friendly ballpark either.
Hence backing the under.
