AZ Alkmaar managed to progress further into the competition even though they didn't show much against their biggest rival there Serbian side Partizan, but still, neither the Serbs had enough quality or concentration to seal the progress further losing out two goals lead in the last ten minutes of their deciding game.
Still, it can't be neglected that AZ Alkmaar actually has season above all the expectations for now. It should be especially said for Eredivisie since they continue to fly high in the second position - six points behind leaders from Ajax and with four more than third-placed Feyenoord and five more than the fourth PSV.
However, they aren' in the best possible shape in recent weeks, counting three defeats in the last five Eredivisie rounds, losing out 2:0 away to Twente last weekend.
Despite more of the ball possession, they actually kept the ball in an uncreative way, not being able to respond properly on the field after being two goals down in the first halftime. They tried to react, but very little was done in a concrete way on the field.
AZ Alkmaar team news
Central defender Chatzidiakos (11/1) is out injured, as well as central-back Vlaar (10/2). Another central defender Wuytens (21/0) is doubtful. Offensive Gudmundsson (4/1) is also out.
LASK Linz continued their great run away from home, coming from tenth straight victory on the road in Tipico Bundesliga, after a 2:3 win over Salzburg last Friday evening.
The side exactly knew how to play against Salzburg, leaving the ball possession to them and threatening with fast transition using counters. Luckily for them, they were sharp enough, taking the double lead via Frieser and Holland.
Frieser scored another one in the second to reinstall two goals lead, while they endured just fine till the end. After many weeks LASK is now first at the table having a point more than Salzburg and can't await the last three rounds of the regular part of the season in a better atmosphere.
LASK Linz team news
Defender Wostry (8/1) is out for the guests and should be their only injury worry.
Complete form difference
As said, AZ Alkmaar is not looking like a side in the best possible form, while their confidence is surely questionable at the moment. After winning the match away to Salzburg, we can only say exactly different for LASK.
The visitors are looking as sharp as possible and have proved many times this season that they are no pushovers. The guests could easily surprise here, even a straight victory for them wouldn't be a surprise to me.
