They will have the chance to defend it, only in case they finish third in the CL group stage and join the competition in Spring 2020 at the knockout phase.

Determined with nation's coefficient, the competition again starts late in June. The preliminary round will consist of four domestic cup winners from four rock bottom nations at UEFA rankings, six league runner-ups from associations (49-54) and four domestic third-placed teams in their leagues from associations (48-51).

Qualifying Path

The first qualifying round will start on 9th July. Seven winners from the preliminary round will join 87 pre-determined teams. Reputable teams to look for in the first round would be: Legia Warsaw, FCSB, Malmo, Molde, Brondby, Glasgow Rangers and a few more.

Just like in the previous season, we will be having two different paths of qualifying to Europa League group stage from the second round. The main path we already described will continue with the addition of some really strong clubs such as Eintracht Frankfurt, Espanyol, Sparta Prague, Braga, Gent, Feyenoord, Partizan Belgrade, Wolverhampton, Strasbourg and many more.

Another part of the second qualifying round is called "Champions Path" and will only consist of the teams that ended the participation in the CL qualifying rounds. Losers from the first qualifying round in Champions League, will be transfered to the second qualifying Europa League round, losers of the second round will be transfered to third qualifying round.

Overall, participation for the Europa League group stage 2019/20 edition will earn 8 winners of the Champions qualifying path, 13 winners of play-off (Main Path round), 6 losers of CL play-off rounds and 4 losers from CL (League Path). Seventeen teams are already known participants of Europa League group stage phase.
