Union Berlin surprised more than well in a 0:2 victory away from home against Werder Bremen last Saturday afternoon. They actually opted for a defensive approach, but it was fine working counter attacks that paid off to them in a great manner this time.
The first halftime was spent in the ball control of Werder but in a quite uninteresting way. A goal from Bulter in the 52nd minute made all the difference, as Bremen had to risk and had even more of the ball possession, while the visitors from Berlin continued to threaten via counters.
Bremen missed some really decent chances, while the guests exploited another situation in a great way to double up their lead again via Bulter. They continue to perform very well through the season and are far above expected positions.
Currently, they stand at the eleventh place with nine points more than playout placed Fortuna Dusseldorf. Still, taking more points in front of their own fans, makes them surely want a victory in this game as well.
Union Berlin team news
They continue to miss offensive Abdullahi (4/0), midfielders Gogia (3/0), Mees (7/0), neither of them with a huge influence so far in the season.
In surely the most interesting game of the previous weekend, players of Leverkusen managed to surprise in a 4:3 victory at home over Dortmund. The game itself was pretty open, but it looked like going in the visitors' way till the last ten minutes of the game.
It was the hosts who took the lead via Volland in the 20th minute, but the guests responded well reverting the scoreline in the next thirteen minutes. Even so, Volland found an equalizer again towards the end of the halftime, while the guests re-installed their lead in the middle of the second halftime.
However, defensive gaps and individual mistakes withing the visiting side made the hosts gain the momentum and revert the scoreline completely in two minutes, via Bailey and Bender.
Bayer is suffering from unreliable performances all season long and inability to perform well in consecutive matches, but they seem to be gaining some decent momentum with four victories in the last five official matches since the re-start of the league.
Bayer Leverkusen team news
The guests can't count at central midfielder Aranguiz (15/1) and forward Paulinho (6/1) who comes back from international duty. Defensive midfielder Baumgartlinger (16/1) remains doubtful with a knee problem.
Bayer Leverkusen is coming into this one as a favorite and should get the three-pointer this time. They look really resilient in the attack and should be able to come up really threatening here.
Union Berlin knows how to attack as an underdog in their home matches and should make this match as interesting as possible finding a way to score as well.
