Villarreal vs Atletico Madrid

After some decent results and phases earlier into the season, players of Villarreal got struck in a poorer form now.

After the last five rounds, they have just one point earned and three straight defeats now. Most recently, it was a 2:1 loss on the road to Valencia, with themselves really missing some good chances to walk away with a more positive outcome.

That includes a penalty missed in the fifteenth minute as it was their way to get the lead. In an overall very open game, it was Valencia who used their chances better, in a match where the guests had more of the ball possession and surely did deserve something more.

The side is now five points above the relegation zone and surely wants to switch the momentum, something that they deserve actually with the performances shown.

The home side is set to miss defender Moreno (3/0), plus two really long-term absentees who didn't play so far in the season: midfielders Bruno and Guerra.

Atletico comes from a rough patch in the last couple of weeks, as the team previously suffered defeat away to Juventus in the Champions League group stage with their progress to the knockout phase still not being granted now.

As for the LaLiga, the team suffered disappointing 0:1 loss against Barcelone last Sunday night, even though they stood well on the field and endured for quite some time.

Of course, the team was more passive on the field, with exception of the first halftime when they looked concrete too, but in the end, paid the price of switching defensively towards the end.

Messi scored the only goal back in the 86th minute leaving not enough time for Atletico to react later on.

The side is now just a point behind the Champions League positions and needs to react in this one as well as table-wise, as in order to change the atmosphere a bit being with no win in the last three official matches.

The guests continue to miss striker Costa (11/2) and right back Vrsaljko (no performance so far). Doubtful are central backs Savic (6/0) and Gimenez (8/0).

Atletico is a favorite in this one and might be able to get the victory, however with the way Villarreal plays, it's very difficult to see this match being a passive and defensive one from neither of the teams.

The way the hosts play should make Atletico be more proactive on the field than usual, at least that's what I'm looking for in this one.

In his last 5 matches Villareal lost against Ebar, Celta and Mallorca, clubs below them, all candidates for relegation. Maybe they do play openly, but that is exactly what suit for someone like Atletico Madrid to smash them 4-0, maybe.
