Ascoli looked really fine at moments and during some weeks of the previous season in Italian Serie B, but still fighting for the promotion was too much for them as the team stood ith just one victory in the last six rounds of the regular part.
They have entered pretty convincingly into the new season, winning two matches of the Coppa Italia at home.
Two weeks ago, they won 5:1 against Pro Vercelli in a really effective performance, while Trapani was defeated last Sunday evening as well with a 2:0 result. Once they upped the tempo in the second halftime it was pretty much over for the newly-promoted side.
Midfielder Petrucci came from Rizespor, while they have also signed right back Pucino from Salernitana and signed a couple of more on loan deal. The core of the team is still there.
Trapani lost the title battle to Juve Stabia in Italian Serie C Group C last season, but the team managed to make it count in further additional playoff matches and still win the promotion.
Still, the side excluded Catania in the semi-finals match thanks to away goal rule, winning over Piacenza in the finals in a goalless game on the road and 2:0 home victory to seal the promotion.
During the pre-season period, the side had early rounds of the Coppa Italia, winning at home over Piacenza 3:1, but suffering exclusion to first-round opponent Ascoli 2:0 away from home.
They were far better during the whole season at home comparing to away matches, having 16-1-1 run at home and looking more like a mediocre side on the road. It's something that might have an influence at the bigger stage too.
The team doesn't look much more improved compared to the previous season, as they signed striker Nzola from Carpi, also bringing midfielder Jakimovski from AEL Larissa are a bit more reputable reinforcements.
Ascoli already met Trapani in Italian Cup game last weekend and the hosts got quite comfortably 2:0 victory. Not much should change from then on.
The hosts actually looked pretty concrete with the ball in their possession during the middle part of the previous season and I expect them to be even more competitive this season.
Apart from their three consecutive defeats at the end of the season, they were even a material that would battle for the play-off stage. Knowing that they should be able to get the victory once again against the same opponent, as the guests don't look like a side capable of miracles in the first season.
