Chile vs Peru (By: PlayMaker)
In the quarterfinals, Chile clashed with the best playing team in the group stage - Colombia. However, the players of Reinaldo Rueda are the ones who created more dangerous situations especially 2 goals rejected by VAR. The regular time closed without any goal. On the shootout, both teams are very brave and take full advantage of the first 4 shots. However, in the final series, Colombia's Tesillo finishes out while Sanchez coldly defeats his former team-mate Ospina, and takes Chile into the 2019 Copa America semi-final.
The presence of the Peruvian team at the semifinals is a result of many surprises for professionals and fans alike. Ricardo Gareca's troop ranks only third in Group A with 4 points and enters the quarterfinals thanks to the good results of the 3rd ranked teams.
Peru must encounter one of the high-profile teams Uruguay. Not surprisingly, they let the opponent completely dominate, controlling the entire match. In the 28th minute, Peru allowed Arrascaeta to hit the net, although his goal was not recognized for offside. Entering the second half, opportunities continued to come from Uruguay and in fact they did quite well their work. The duo Cavani - Suarez in the second half each find the Peruvian net once, but instead of the two goals, it continued to be unrecognized by VAR.On a series of brainstorming shootout, fortunes continued to stand on Peru's side when they had five shots of success, while Suarez was the only one who failed. The victory was fortunate to help Peru advance into the semi-final against Chile's opponent.
Both teams were not true favorite ahead to this tournament but they are already in this semi-final thanks for their incredible forms and also their lucks. Chile started their tournament very impressively but their performance seems to decline after each match, especially in terms of finishing ability of their attack with 2 consecutive goalless game. They are the more active side against Colombia but the fact that can not convert their chance into goal was not in their game plan.
Peru will certainly adopt again a two-bus defense in front of their goalkeeper so that will be problem for Sanchez and his teammate. They had a perfect offside trap against Uruguay so very likely they will use it again in this semi-final. However, it will be very interesting to see how they works as Chile are much more creative team than Uruguay.
8/10 last encouters between Peru and Chile gave at least 3 goals scored. Even this is a semi-final, I don't think they are interested in continuing in extra-time and penalty shootout one more time. Not any goal appeared from last 4 games of them so I think this is the moment that their attacker find the feeling of scoring.
