Chile vs Japan (By: PlayMaker)
Located in Group C with the presence of Uruguay, Chile and Ecuador, Japan is the most underrated name for its ability to go through into the playoff stage. If done well, the best-performing Asian team in the 2018 World Cup still has a chance to qualify for the qualifying round by becoming the third best-performing team. With a squad that has many names playing abroad, and a smart and disciplined play style, Japan is still believed to do something when attending Copa America as a guest.
The luggage that the Samurai's team brought to the South American Cup this year is quite good. In the last 3 friendly matches against CONCACAF and South American teams, there were 2 wins and 2 draws. In particular they won a 2-0 victory over El Salvador in a friendly match a week ago. Thus, the Asian Cup runner-up will enter the first match at the Copa America with a positive attitude and a comfortable mentality.
Chile is no longer able to maintain its strength as it was a few years ago and has consistently failed in recent major tournaments. Chile's current squad compared to the 2016 throne does not have a lot of reforms, still names like Sanchez and Vidal but with a performance that is no longer the same. La Roja's preparation for the tournament this year was not impressive, they lost to Mexico 1-3, drew 1-1 from America and won a narrow victory against the tiny Haiti team with the score 2-1. With the current face of Chile, not many people believe that they will successfully defend the South American championship.
Compared to the South American teams, the strength and class of Japan are not appreciated and only ranked on par with the weak teams of the region such as Venezuela or Ecuador. At this tournament call-up, Coach Moriyasu did not summon Japan's brightest stars but mainly U23 players. He considered it a battlefield for U23 players to practice and improve their experience for the 2020 Olympics at home. Meanwhile, Chile, although they are no longer themselves, they still have experienced players, along with the determination to win the first 3 points. Therefore, if Japan fails to meet Chile in this match, it is not surprising.
The two teams the last time in 2009 and Japanese team won with 4-0 score. That were very long time ago so now there are a lot of changes in both side. But Shinji Okazaki who scored a double against Chile that day still participate this Copa America.
Both sides have their own problem before their first kick-off in the tournament. However, with a high offensive-minded gameplay that were constructed from years to years. They can not refuse to play an entertaining game in this match.
