Sporting Kansas City vs Monterrey (By: Dajkula)
Sporting Kansas City hosts Monterrey at the Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, for the return match of the semi-finals of the Concacaf Champions League. Sporting has a mountain to climb as they lost 5:0 in the first match in Mexico. Nobody believes they will manage to overcome that deficit but when there is the will, there is at least the possibility to win this game. The team got a right slap in the face and they have to wash this off. The coach Vermes says that it was not their day and that this is not who they are. They have to make amends to their home crowd. If we look at the previous results then we could say that the team can do much better. They managed to get past the Mexican Toluca with 5:0 on aggregate and reaching the semi-finals isn`t that easy at all. The team plays well in the domestic league and they have the match with the struggling Red Bulls in 3 days time, also at home. The season has just started and they will lose nothing if they go all out today, as the coach announces.
Monterrey has a huge result and will get nothing by chasing the win. They will probably park the bus and try to conserve energy. They do really need it as they are falling in the domestic league since they play the CCL. Out of the last 6 matches, they have won just once and that was against Kansas City. In the last league match, they were humiliated by Toluca with 5:1 and those results continue for a while now. Monterrey is third in the league but they are only 3 points away from the 9`th place which will not get you the play-off. There are only 4 rounds to play in the regular and Monterrey has to get a hold on the league. The possibility that they will rest players in this match is substantial.
Monterrey will get little with a win here and I expect that the host will be the adventurous ones. I am going with their win today.
