Wellington Phoenix vs Sydney FC (By: Dajkula)
Wellington Phoenix welcomes Sydney FC in a fiery affair @ the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. Both teams are in a very nice momentum and it feels very little will separate the two. Sydney usually dominates this clash but we shouldn`t underestimate Wellington this time.
Wellington hasn`t been in the play-off for the last 4 seasons but they look capable this time around. They only finished above last in the previous season. The ex Sydney player, coach Rudan, has made this a team a contender. They are always willing to fight and hit you on the counterattack. Maybe the best presentation of their game was against Melbourne Victory. They came out strong and took a 3:1 lead till half time. It was too little though and they just had to settle for a 3:3 draw. If they scored for 4:1 the game would have been over but they missed so many chances. If the game ended 5:5 it wouldn`t have been too much. Their attacking attitude, that Rudan installed, is leaving them exposed all the time and it is a real wonder how they are undefeated in 9 games. It goes to their positive attitude, I guess. They just don`t give up. Phoenix has 6-5-3 till now and is 5`th with 23 points. At home, they have 4-1-2 and 13:11 gd averaging about 3.4 goals per game.
Their main attacker Krishna is on fire scoring in 7 of the last 9 games. He also scored a brace in the last 3 matches he played. It will take something to stop him.
Sydney FC is the contender number one and maybe to go first in the regular part of the season. They got some opposition in Perth and Victory this season and they are far from convincing. Sydney is third with 29 points and 9-2-3 so far. Their results have been better on the road this season but in general, they are having trouble shutting down the opponents. Their form is good, especially lately, winning 6 of the last 7 matches. What is not good, however, is the fact they always manage to concede. They conceded in 10 of the last 11 matches played and they also went over in 9 of the last 10 matches. Their favorite score seems to be 2:1. They do have players that can score goals and are not dependant on Le Fondre(11) or Brosque(6).
As I said, Sydney is better in these clashes and has won 5 of the last 7. Wellington did win, however, in the last away match with 3:1 and created quite a surprise. Can they do it again? For sure.
Regardless, I am going with probably the safer option, for goals. In 5 of their last 6 h2h games, we saw at least 4 goals. The teams are in high scoring form and they have the best league scorers in their ranks.
Wellington has all available while Sydney is missing Grant, Van der Linden, Buhagiar, Zuvela, Tratt.
Wellington (3-4-1-2): Kurto; Taylor, Durante, Doyle; Fenton, Mandi, Rufer, Cacace; Singh; Krishna, Williams
Sydney(4-2-3-1): Redmayne; Retre, Wilkinson, Calver, Zullo; Brillante, O'Neill; Ninkovic, Brosque, De Jong; Le Fondre
