Newcastle Jets vs Brisbane Roar (By: Dajkula)

Happy New Year! For the first match of the year, I will go straight to the land down under. In Newcastle, the hosts with the same name will try to be very cheap and stingy and not give any gifts to the visiting Brisbane Roar. Both teams are in dire need of points but that can especially be said for Brisbane. If you count on a simple win for the hosts it will hardly be the case. Just look at the results and you will see Newcastle is not to be trusted. Not like last year. Last year Newcastle was brilliant but that is rarely true as they usually end at the bottom of the table. But let's say they are doing better than usual and worse than last season. They had to sell some players and now there isn`t such quality in the team.

Newcastle is ranked 7`th with 11 points and 3-2-5 thus far. Interestingly they have taken more points away from home and here they have just 1-1-3 with 4:6 gd. After the very poor start of the league, Newcastle has been hard to get a hold of having 3-0-3 from the last 6. The biggest problem for Newcastle has been really poor finishing and not having a prominent striker. Just looking at the last matches we saw Newcastle heavily dominating in creating scoring chances going over 20. The same thing happened against Adelaide 1:2 and Perth 0:2. There were quite unlucky as well. They definitely have the game but those last results were probably hard to swallow. Yet on the positive note, their best scorer O`Donovan was back in the team after a lengthy suspension and played the last two matches. He scored against Adelaide and if he can get the support from underperforming Jair and Petratos, Newcastle should be a bigger threat today.

Newcastle is missing Champness (att.0-0) and keeper Moss (10-0).

Brisbane is far from their best days and they are lingering on the 9`th place with just 6 points. They have 1-3-6 all together and 0-1-5 and 6:14 away from home. They just got in the playoff battle last season but were eliminated quickly. It seems everything is going from bad to worse for Brisbane. There isn`t much quality in the team and the only name worth mentioning is Taggart who came from Perth. The team is quite dependent on him for goals and he scored 6 in 10 matches played. He seems to be the only one to score. Brisbane has been in a very bad run lately and lost the last 5 matches. The negative run cost the coach Aloisi his job and Darren Davies took over as an interim coach. He lead the team against Sydney but they lost again by 2:1. There were some positives in their game, however.

Brisbane will be missing Holman (att.0-0) and Kristensen (mid.9-0).

Newcastle isn`t the best team for Brisbane to face. Newcastle took their only win at home against Brisbane not a month ago. Newcastle also dominates in recent encounters winning 6 of the last 7 matches. Brisbane has the worst away record and the worst defense so this makes Newcastle quite the favorite.

Probable lineups:

NEWCASTLE JETS

(4-2-3-1): Italiano; Hoffman, Topor-Stanley, Boogaard, Georgievski; Kantarovski, Ridenton; D. Petratos, Vargas, Jair; O'Donovan

BRISBANE ROAR

(4-3-3): Young; Hingert, Bowles, Pepper, O'Toole; Alex Lopez, Caletti, McKay; Bautheac, Taggart, Henrique Silva.

I am going with a home win here even if it is far from a sure thing.

Sometimes its very worrying when u see the odds for home dropping so drastically especially for australian league. I have witness numerous match fixing for this league. Do be careful
