Monaco vs Lyon
Monaco suffered a major setback last weekend, as the team only drew against Sochaux 2:2 away from home. That result represents one of bigger surprises in the season, not only because of the draw outcome, but also because of the way it happened. Monaco took the 2:0 lead already in tenth minute and probably believed that the game has ended, while the home side reacted with two goals in the second half avoiding defeat.
For the first time since the start of the championship, Monaco isn't at the top of the table as their setback brought them to only third position and 22 points earned till now with a 6-4-0 record. They have two points less than PSG and will surely be looking to get three points tonight, so they can continue their race with PSG. Coach Ranieri has said that he isn't worried, also adding Falcao has scored enough goals till now and that he isn't worried about him not scoring in previous three games. Offensive players Dirar and Barazite are long term absences, without participation this season and their absenteeism can be easily covered in such a rich roster. On the bright side, key offensive midfielder Riviere comes back into the team after serving suspension in previous games.
Lyon defeated Rijeka 1:0 on Thursday night in the third round of Europa League group stage, but it has to be said that the victory came easier than the result shows. Their performance was relatively good and the French side came to the first victory in the group after being way more dominant, however didn't convert their chances into goal(s) and had to be satisfied with a winning goal scored in 65th minute.
President Aulas said that he is very pleased with the reaction of his players after a difficult period. Also, main central defender Bisevac has said that the position in which Lyon currently is, doesn't fit the club and that all the locker room is positive that the players will bring the team to the upper part of the table very soon. However, tough job is ahead of them, as not only the team isn't playing very well, but they also have six players out for tonight's game. Right back Lopes (4/0), defenders Abidal (9/0) and Umtiti (4/0) are out with injuries, same as injured midfielders Gourcuff (4/2), Toulalan (5/0) while Lacazette (9/4) is suspended.
With several players out and unconvincing performances all season long, Lyon will hardly stay competitive here for the whole match. Monaco seems way more superior this season and as much as Lyon deserves respect, this season started in the worst possible way for them, while the team struggles to score even when they play decent.
