Bahrain vs Denmark by 20Legend
Bahrain continued their loosing-streak with their second loss in the qualification. Their opponent was Croatia so it was a very much anticipated loss. The Croatians raised the tempo right from the start and Bahrain did not manage to follow them at all. This was Bahrain’s second loss as they were beaten by Norway (35-29) the day before. However, they managed to follow Norway for a long time, but it was all about the Norwegian players slowing down as they felt that they had control. Bahrain was able to follow Croatia for one half as well with the score 14-14 at halftime. Croatia had their minds set on tonight’s match against Norway that will be decisive and therefore used a starting lineup with the “reserves” in the first half. However, they changed things in the second half by bringing on their regular players and took control towards the end of the game with a comfortable 33-22 win.
Denmark had a very tough game against Norway (25-25) yesterdays which obviously cost a lot more energy than expected. Norway did actually lead the way in this game, but two vital performances by the Danes’ superstars secured a draw in the end. Mikkel Hansen and goalkeeper Niklas Landin were the two players that had a vital contribution in each end of the pitch.
With Croatia and Norway meeting in their last group match before Denmark’s game against Bahrain, a lot can be decided before the match. Norway (3 pts) leads the group at the moment and will be through if they are able to get at least a draw. Denmark is currently 2nd (3pts), but must win if Croatia manages to beat Norway tonight as they will go down to 3rd place before taking on Bahrain. I expect Croatia to give Norway a very tough match tonight and they are the favorites to take the win as well. I therefore think that Denmark will be in the situation that they must win to advance to the Olympics as the top two in this group. However, the Danish team should be taking a clear win against Bahrain no matter what the circumstances are. Denmark should dominate from the very start in this one and the line of over 16.5 goals in the first half should be expected of them.
