Nantes vs Lyon

Nantes didn't manage to get all three points last weekend, as the team had a goalless draw at home against out of form Lille, continuing their winless streak to five matches now in Ligue 1. The game itself, was quite a passive one from both sides, but it has to be said that if any of the teams was to score a goal, that would probably be the away team.

Players of Nantes had more of the ball possession, but that was it, visitors from Lille looked more dangerous and have created more concrete chances in front of opponents goal - however, not enough in order to score. This was also second consecutive match where Nantes didn't score, as they continue to be in the second part of the table, now at seventeenth position with the same number of points as relegating worried Nancy, just five points more than rock bottom placed Lorient.

Home team will be playing in 4-3-3 formation with Moimbe, Sala and Iloki in attack. Defensive midfielder Valentin Rongier (10/0) is injured, while suspended remains central midfielder Adrien Thomasson (9/0).

Lyon, on the other side, didn't manage to get points in the derby game against PSG last Sunday evening, but nobody will be very disappointed with a 1:2 loss, since there's obvious quality difference between the two sides and players and fans of Lyon are more than well aware of it.

However, they didn't look that poor on the field, on contrary, being more than worthy opponents for the most of the game. Parisians took the lead in 30th minute from a penalty kick taken by Cavani, while Lyon responded at the beginning of the second halftime with a goal from Valbuena. Parisians pressed more in the last quarter of the game and somehow deserved the victory secured with the second goal from Cavani nine minutes before the full time whistle. Lyon no slipped down to seventh position, being two points away from fourth placed Rennes and needs a victory here in order to get back to European exit battle.

Lyon should continue in 4-3-3 formation with Ghezzal, Lacazette and Valbuena as forwards. Central defender Emanuel Mammana (6/0) remains doubtful as the game might come too soon for him, while right defedner Christophe Jallet remains long term absentee.

  • Lyon have kept a clean sheet in their last 3 matches against Nantes.

Nantes is showing close to nothing in attack recently and I can't see them being very competitive here. Lyon has their own ups and downs during the match, but their offensive potential can't be compared with Nantes'. They have two consecutive victories in Ligue 1 away from home and third seems to be so close now.
