Caen vs Monaco

Caen impressed last weekend as the team managed to take a point in a 2:2 draw away from home against Nice last Friday evening. They looked more or less passive and threatened only via counter attacks, but even so managed to take the lead in 36th minute with a goal from Santini and even to double it up with the second goal from Karamoh.

No doubt that the players of Nice have much more quality but didn't show much of it all the way till last twenty minutes of the game via Balotelli and Donis in 71st and 77th minute, pushing for the third goal as well and they were actually quite close to reach the winning goal. It was a draw, but surely a positive result for the team, as they continue to be above the relegation zone with four points more than play-out placed Nancy.

Home team continues to struggle with injuries, since they miss right back Mouhamadou Dabo (2/0), defensive midfielder Ismael Diomande (7/0), midfielders Jonathan Delaplace (25/0), Steed Malbranque (11/0), offensive midfielder Herve Bazile (19/2) and forward Pape Sane (12/1).

Monaco, on the other side, took quite professional 2:1 victory in front of own crowd against Bordeaux last weekend as they continued the title race. Hosts were better from the first minute, but only managed to take the lead once they increased the tempo, with goals from Mbappe in 68th and Moutinho six minutes later, while the visitors reduced the deficit towards the end via Rolan, but without being much threaten later on.

Monaco remained at the first position now having three points more than PSG and five more than third placed Nice so the team remains in a must win situation here. During the midweek, they managed to impress a lot and earn qualification to the quarter-finals stage of Champions League with a 3:1 victory over Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

Monaco will miss suspended right (sometimes left) full back Djibril Sidibe (24/2), but also injured striker Falcao (22/16), forward Guido Carrillo (17/7) and offensive midfielder Boschilia (11/6). Central defender Andrea Raggi is doubtful having picked up an injury last time out against Citizens.

Monaco comes here with a boosted morale after their victory and progress to the quarter-finals of Champions League against Manchester City, but also in a must win situation here in order to continue the title race with the lead. I expect them to get the victory, but also in a bit more offensive game from both side then usually, with Caen also being in a decent form and in a situation in which they also need to chase the points.

Do not agree here. Caen is solid and proved it last week vs Nice. Why discount them? They could do it again in home turf especially since Monaco is coming off a big time upset vs Man City. Players could be rested / protected. Like the over, not so sure about the Monaco win.

What are you talking man? You can’t compare Nice with Monaco and 2nd… Monaco beat City with 3 – 1 so MONACO goes forward! Monaco will win and Caen might score once…

  3. MarieFR says:

Monaco will win, they are in really good shape.
