Colombia vs Paraguay by DamirJ
Colombia entered their Copa America in the right form, prevailing against USA 2:0 at the start of competition. They had a very good game, winning the match relatively easily. Especially well they did in the first part of the match, when the team took the lead already in eight minute with a goal from Zapata, while they doubled up the lead just before the halftime whistle thanks to a goal from Rodriguez from a penalty kick.
The side experienced some problems in the second part of the game, however passed some difficulties and even had a chance for the third goal. Now, the victory over Paraguay would ensure the qualification for the next round of Copa America and in that case, their third game in the group stage with Costa Rica would be almost a carefree game for them. Everyone in their team is aware now that they must not go into the match against Paraguay with an easy approach and that the game itself might be very difficult one.
Probably even more difficult since James Rodriguez will not be playing here, since he has a shoulder injury that put him off the field in a game against USA and the most likely scenario is that the player will be spared here and striker position will get either Moreno, either the coach will change the system from 4-2-3-1 to 4-2-2-2.
Paraguay, on the other hand, had a goalless draw in the opening round of the first group with Costa Rica and the team needs to go after all three points here, sooner or later. Especially having in mind the fact that they will be playing their last game against hosts from USA and that they need to obtain here something in order to keep the chances close to high of progressing to the knockout stage.
Both teams looked like playing not to lose and only then trying to win, attacking very little. players of Paraguay had some decent moment, but lacked clear idea of what to do. Their coach Ramon Diaz was however satisfied with the appearance, despite the fact that his players didn't have a clear try to score a goal. No doubt that this will need to change against Colombia, as the team needs to find the gap for their counter attacks.
Diaz should field close to similar, if not the same lineup that played for Paraguay in the first match. They should have no absent player for this one, since central defender Gustavo Gomez and midfielder Derlis Gonzalez overcame their discomfort from the previous game.
Colombia remains a better side even without Rodriguez, having in mind that they anyway have great players in the midfield and with Bacca in attack. Enough to make a difference during the match, even though this one could also be another under 2.5 goals game as well, since the players of Paraguay will probably struggle to score in both remaining matches.
