Bosnia Herzegovina vs Denmark by 20Legend

Bosnia is taking part in a mini-tournament in Japan called Kirini Cup together with Denmark, Bulgaria and Japan from June 3rd to June 7th. Bosnia was one of the teams that did not reach the Euro 2016, as they lost against Ireland in the playoffs. They lost their last friendly against Spain (3-1) last Sunday, but they do not have the same squad for this tournament. This is a tournament where Bosnia is missing several of their best players like Edin Dzeko (Roma), Miralem Pjanic (Roma), Emir Spahic (Hamburger SV) and Asmir Begovic (Chelsea). It is therefore a clearly reduced team that takes on their opponents in this tournament. The following squad has been selected:

Goalkeepers: Ibrahim Sehic (Quarabag), Kenan Piric (Sloboda)

Defenders: Ognjen Vranjes (Gijon), Toni Sunjic (Stuttgart), Sead Kolasinac (Schalke 04), Edin Cocalic (Mechelen), Mateo Susic (Sheriff Tiraspol), Almir Bekic (Sarajevo), Aleksandar Kosoric (Zeljeznicar)

Midfielders: Haris Medunjanin (Maccabi Tel Aviv), Izet Hajrovic (Eibar), Anel Hadzic (Eskisehirspor), Miroslav Stevanovic (Zeljeznicar), Haris Duljevic (Sarajevo), Mario Vrancic (Darmstadt), Srdan Grahovac (Rapid Wien), Rade Krunic (Empoli), Zvonimir Kozulj (Siroki Brijeg), Filip Arezina (Zrinjski)

Attackers: Milan Duric (Cesena), Armin Hodzic (Dinamo Zagreb)

Denmark was also not good enough to take part in the Euro 2016 as Sweden knocked them out in the playoffs. Their Norwegian coach Age Hareide has brought his players to Japan this week in order to get their focus on to the WC-qualification that starts in September. With only four teams attending, it is going to be two matches for Denmark in this tournament.

It has been stated to the media that especially Bosnia and Bulgaria gives Denmark a valuable experience from this tournament. The reason is that Denmark will face some teams during the WC-qualification that are quite similar in terms of culture and way of playing football. Except from Poland, it is Armenia, Kazakhstan, Montenegro and Romania that are in Denmark’s group in order to reach the WC. It therefore seems like the Danish leaders has a point in why they are participating here. It is also some names missing from the Danish squad towards this cup, but they still have a strong team on paper with both Kasper Schmeichel and Christian Eriksen available. The following players have been selected:

Goalkeepers: Kasper Schmeichel (Leicester), Jonas Lössl (Guingamp), Frederik Rønnow (Brondby)

Defenders: Daniel Agger (Brondby) Simon Kjær (Fenerbahce), Andreas Christensen (Borussia Monchengladbach), Jannik Vestergaard (Werder Bremen), Lasse Nielsen (Gent), Peter Ankersen (FC Copenhagen), Henrik Dalsgaard (Zulte-Waregem), Riza Durmisi (Brondby), Mathias Jorgensen (FC Copenhagen)
Midfielders: Thomas Delaney (FC Copenhagen), William Kvist (FC Copenhagen), Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Schalke 04), Christian Eriksen (Tottenham), Lasse Schöne (Ajax), Mike Jensen (Rosenborg), Nicolaj Thomsen (AaB), Lasse Vibe (Brentford), Yussuf Poulsen (RB Leipzig), Martin Braithwaite (Toulouse)

Attackers: Viktor Fischer (Ajax), Lucas Andersen (Willem II), Morten Rasmussen (AGF)

It is not the biggest of tournaments that begins today off course, but it is still valuable experience for both teams in terms of getting ready for the WC-qualification in September. With that being said, it is very clear that Denmark have brought a better squad here, and it is also clear that Denmark’s manager Age Hareide wants to use this tournament as a real test against opponents like today. With the big difference in squad and obviously the will to get something out of this tournament, I expect Denmark to take the win here.

Agger left the camp today, presumably to enter negotiations with his next club (possibly Fenerbahce alongside teammate Kjaer)
