Netherlands vs Denmark by 20legend
Netherlands gave a knockout on all their opponents in the qualification group E, with 9-0-1 (27 points) and 37-8 on goal difference. Their only loss came against Sweeden in the last qualification match (3-2), but then were Netherlands the group-winner already. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar made 12 goals and 8 assists during the qualification, while Robin van Persie made 6 goals and 6 assists. It is expected that Robin van Persie will get to start for Netherlands against Denmark, and Huntelaar is clearly don’t happy with always being on the bench. He has told the press that he doesn’t understand what he must do in order to start for Netherlands, and the coach, Bert van Marwijk have a difficult task here.
Van Marwijk said on a press conference that Joris Mathijsen (defender) will be missing the game against Denmark, but will return in their next match. Mathijsen has been struggling with his hamstring since the friendly against Bulgaria, and he will not be risked here. That is bad news for Netherlands, but it opens the possibility for either Ron Vlaar or Wilfred Bouma to step in against Denmark.
Denmark did surprisingly won the qualification group H, ahead of Portugal with a strong victory in the last match (2-1). They send Portugal out in the playoff which, but must still be noticed as the weakest team in this group. However, Denmark is a hard working unit which they must show here if they should have any intentions to make any trouble for the other teams. I honestly believe that the chances are very small. Denmark don’t have the quality all over the squad which Netherlands, Germany and Portugal possesses, and Denmark doesn’t have any big superstars either like Sweeden for example with Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Denmarks most exiting player, Christian Eriksen, could be a star, but is currently playing at Ajax in the Eredivisie league in Netherlands.
Netherlands will bring out all their firepower in this match because it is a game that they must win, since Portugal and Germany will be their next opponents. The quality they have is just dazzling in terms of stars in almost every position. Both Affelay (midfield) and Robin van Persie (striker) have been fantastic in the two last friendly matches. If add on others like Robben, Sneijder, Huntelaar, Rafael van der Vaart ,van Bommel, de Jong, you understand the capacity in this team. Netherland just have more quality all over and they have got god covers in all places as well. Denmark has to trust their starting line-up, and do not possess anyway near the individual skills that Netherlands have. If Netherlands shall advance from this group, they must beat Denmark and tear the Danish unit apart with their outstanding attacking play. My pick will be Netherlands for sure.
