As we can see above Cipolla and Harrison never met before. At first look on ATP standings, we could say they are players of same or similar quality. But I don't think so, at least not when there is match on hard court. IMO Cipolla would have much better chances maybe on clay while here on hard and against young and highly motivated domestic player, I doubt that Cipolla can achieve something. When we talk about tennis on hard court then service should be one of crucial factors. And there Ryan Harrison is simply much better from Flavio Cipolla. The Italian player has very average serv and IMO Harrison should not have problem to break him couple times during this match.
This is a theory, but in practice Cipolla was slightly more successful on hard in this season than usual. This is already 8th ATP tour for him in 2012 and in previous seven only happened once that Cipolla lost on first round. Though, also only once he was in third round. Among well known players, Cipolla beat Ljubicic, Davydenko, Seppi... But each time there was one big BU: Ivan Ljubicic is not any more too much serious player, he can lose from big dog at any time, Seppi is also in questionable form plus it was match between two Italians and matches between players from same country are always advisable to avoid. Also win over Davydenko happened at the start of the year when Russian was far from form in which we could see him in recent matches.
Harrison had similar results but with one big exception in San Jose when he was in semi and lost to Milos Raonic. Now is again tour on USA ground and IMO Ryan Harrison can achieve good result again. He is still very young (only 19 and half years of age). He appeared suddenly and made his way to world top (if we can say that his best ATP place 65th is world top) exactly somewhere at this time in previous season and on this tournaments in USA.
