Boston vs Minnesota by Jamesington
I'm looking at this match with a fairly short-term formbook as my guide. Of course in the long run one would expect the Bo-Sox to come out on top but they had a ropey start to the season and hadn't been playing their top stuff. Recently though the Beantown side have been scoring runs and winning ballgames again.
They have this game for the series and that would mean a lot to a Fenway crowd who have had to put up with a slow start to the year.
Jacoby Ellsbury, Adrian Gonzalez and Jed Lowrie are three of the guys who've been hot recently. When you add to that mix Big Papi, JD Drew, Youkilis and Dustin Pedroia etc then the Red Sox line up looks formidable and they should win this one fairly easily. I think with a handicap of 1.5 runs they should still take the match.
As if their prowess with the bat wasn't enough, it's Josh Beckett on the mound tonight. The Red Sox main man has had a typically efficient start to the year with an ERA of just 2.35 (this means effectively he does not allow alot of runs against him). Beckett will be pitching to Jason Varitek - the old head, club captain who has been in good form when called upon this season.
I am not dismissing the Twins, merely saying that the Red Sox in current form should see this one as a walk in the park. Fenway Park to be precise.
Let's go Red Sox!
