Newcastle vs Everton by Jamesington
Everton have had quite an up and down time over the past month or so. Taking Chelsea to a replay in the FA Cup and then actually knocking them out, before losing in the next round to Reading. The side's league form has also been mixed with a 5-3 win over Blackpool followed by defeat at Bolton. Everton, it is fairly clear, are not the most consistent of sides.
In contrast, it seems Newcastle are becoming exactly that - a consistent team. They have won or drawn their last four matches and are yet to lose at home in 2011. With Newcastle it seems we can expect, every week, a good team performance - team being the key word.
Both sides lost a key player in January (Newcastle - Andy Carroll, Everton - Steven Pienaar) but right now neither is showing signs of missing their ex-colleague too badly. However, Everton are missing key personnel in the shape of Fellaini and Cahill, two players that play a big part in their side.
Without Cahill in particular, Everton look far from their best and one wonders where the goals will come from - Beckford and Saha are not really that reliable. Newcastle though have goals coming from all over the team - in February Barton, Nolan, Best, Lovenkrands and Tiote all found the net.
This season at home only Manchester United have scored more goals than Newcastle - the Magpies managing to find the net 31 times in their 14 home games so far. Everton's away form is not exactly great with only two victories away from Goodison.
The final factor that suggests the home side will prosper in this fixture is history. Everton have not beaten Newcastle at St. James' Park since the season 2000/2001. In that time Newcastle have recorded five victories to go with the four draws.
(Newcastle also won the earlier match between the two this season, 1-0).
I fancy a home victory. With the safety of draw no bet odds of 1.91 are very tasty indeed.
