Reading vs West Bromwich by Jamesington
Reading knocked West Brom out the FA Cup last year and I suspect/hope they'll do it again this time round.
I think many people will be looking towards this game to produce a high number of goals - this might well be the case and I think the home team will play with enough freedom to allow them to contribute strongly to that high number.
Reading have nothing to lose. They are doing fairly well in the league, just outside the playoff positions on 37 points, so there will be those who will say a cup run would get in the way of any potential promotion push - I disagree. Reading are a side who always enjoy a good cup run and tend to thrill their fans along the ride with exciting, fast-paced football (I actually watched them last year). Shane Long is the club's top scorer and if he plays goals are a near certainty, if not then Simon Church is a more than capable and a very willing substitute for the Irishman.
My general conclusion is that Reading will score goals. The only question is can West Brom match them.
I don't think so. The Baggies - following the song ("Baggies, Baggies, Baggies, Boing, Boing, Boing!") - are right in a relegation battle in the league and will be focusing their efforts on staying up. With that in mind, we can expect a less than full-strength WBA side to be fielded in this cup. The fans got their excitement with a run to the Quarters of the Carling Cup.
Peter Odemwingie - the star man for West Brom - picked up a knock at the weekend and it would be madness to field him at less than 100% for fear of aggravating the injury.
Reading will score. If West Brom can too then it might scupper the bet but I reckon we could have a big win on our hands so back the home side minus a goal.
