Leverkusen and Benfica find themselves in a group where any of the four teams can go on and qualify for the knockout stages of this years Champions league, both sides lost there opening matches with Leverkusens the biggests surprise in my opinion. Leverkusen started their season running but ever since their 3-3 draw against Werder Bremen the team has slowed down a little, winning only 1 match out of 5. The side are 3rd in the Bundasliga, 3 points behind leaders Bayern so they are fulfilling their league expectations so far, but with a loss to Monaco in a very though and equal group the side will be hoping to collect maximum points tonight, infront of their home fans who are yet to witness the side lose at home. Leverkusens attacking style especially at home is very attractive to watch and the young side manage to create a host of chances but this approach has left their defence unorganised and vulnerable. This weakness will definately be exploited by a strong Benfica side, thats is just as hungry to win as the hosts, and have found their football flow. Benfica are undefeated away from home so far while Leverkusen are undefeated at home, both sides have great attacking qualities, and though a draw early on in the group stages can be expected, Leverkusen will face two though matches against Zenit so they will need to maintain their home fortress with a win. Absentees from todays fixture will not make the greatest difference. Benfica have won their last two matches 3-1, while Leverkusen are still trying to find their form from the beginning of their campaign. A win is a must for both attacking sides, Benfica however have a stronger defence and may rely on counters, but word is that both sides look to be aggresive from the start.
