N.Y. Jets vs Lions by Lloyds
The Lions will try to continue their good form this Sunday when they face the Jets in New York. Detroit are 2-1 at the moment, which gave them a little bit of breathing space in the tough NFC North division. In this match they will seek to get their first road win of the season as they got crumbled by Carolina Panthers 24-7, two weeks ago in Charlotte. The Jets are coming off a loss against Chicago, who happen to be from the same division as Detroit, at home 27-19. That was the 2nd straight loss for New York despite a good night from quaterback, Geno Smith, who passed for over 300 yards. Interesting to say, both of Jets' defeats came against NFC North opponents and the Lions will be the 3rd team from that division to face New York for the 3rd straight time.
The Lions have postseason aspirations while New York are probably set for another "question mark" season. Since preseason there were tides in the Jets camp on who should start at the quarterback position, Michael Vick or Smith. With every loss the pressure on young quarterback is growing as his starting spot is not secure. Coach Rex Ryan said he believes in Geno as their franchise quarterback, which is nothing more than an attempt to give him the confidence. Detroit, on the other hand, performed great last week against the division rivals, Green Bay Packers. Lions played exceptionally well defensively, allowing Green Bay only 7 points in the whole game. They showed great effort when dealing with passing offense as well as preventing the running backs from gaining significant yards. Detroit offense is yet to unleash on its full capabilities as the season goes but having Calvin Johnson on their roster is all they need to be victorious on Sunday. Johnson is by far the best wide receiver in the league which means Jets secondary corps will have a lot of troubles covering him. This will lead to a lot of open space for Matthew Stafford to throw it to other receivers and it will create more space for running backs who will penetrate defensive lines.
The Lions look like a better team and I believe New York Jets cannot match that quality. Detroit look a lot better defensively than last year while their offense is capable of scoring 30+ points on anyone, let alone the Jets.
