Tennis ATP, US Open (hard)

First Round

Donald Young is 47th on ATP, he isn't the most reliable tennis player but when his mental holds, he can play very well.

I saw almost all his matchs in Washington 3 weeks ago and I was impressed by his level and concentration which is normally weak, he beat Anderson, Istomin and Benneteau, and reached a nice semi-final where he lost with honour against the future winner Raonic.

Since that good ATP 500, he pass a round in Toronto's Masters 1000 and then lost against Dimitrov but pushed him into 3 sets. His last tournament in Winston Salem wasn't good but it's an ATP 250 just before the US Open so I am not sure that he was fully concentrated or ready to make effort, and I expect better concentration here for his most important tournament of the season at home.

Blaz Kavcic is 92th on ATP, he did a very good job at Challenger's level during June and July where he won 3 tournaments on hard, but then he didn't confirm at ATP's level because he lost quickly during the first round of Washington and Winston Salem, respectively against Becker and Mahut, and he lost 6-3 6-2 against Mahut which is very shameful...

I have also doubts that he came in USA with ambitions, because he didn't try to make qualifications for Toronto and Cincinnati's Masters 1000, so only two matchs for two losses on american courts aren't really a good preparation for this US Open. Besides he never had good results on this Grand Slam, indeed he failed twice on qualifications and lost twice on the first round for his 4 appearances here.

So I think that Young will win this match, and I think that he can do it without 5 sets.
