FC Liverpool - Manchester United

Kickoff: 5.8.2014 / 2:00 CET

Final match of the international champions cup. Both teams knocked out big clubs in the previous competition. I expect here a very exciting match but I see one team in the favorite role here.

Liverpool:

They had to give their best player Luis Suarez away to Real Madrid, who was the top scorer last season in BPL. Nobody knew how Liverpool will react on this and how they will play without him. Nevertheless they have a young talented boy, Sturridge. He could have be a candidate for the top scorer too but he injured in the mid of the season so he only shot 22 goals in Premier league. If we consider that he missed 9 matches this is quite good. Moreover Liverpool signed 3 good players from Southhampton: Lallana (who played an outstanding season and was in the team of the season in England), Lovren and Lambert (both with good performances too last season). Three very good signings for sure. I see Lambert as one of the top players at Liverpool in some years (if he gets enough playing time).

They played a friendly match against AC Roma before the competition. The match ended with a win from Roma 1-0 but it wasn't really deserved. None of both teams deserved the win because chances on both sides were quite equal. Furthermore it was a late goal from Roma, Liverpool had their minds already in their cabins and didn't take care at the last minutes of the match. First match of the competition was against Olympiacos. Good performances on both sides and match ended 1-0 for Liverpool. In the further competition they knocked out Man City in penalties after a 2-2 result in 90 minutes and AC Milan, who were knocked out by 2-0. So they are surely not undeserved in the final.

Manchester United:

It seems that Van Gaal brings a new style in Manchester United and it works! Offensive football style with Tiki-Taka tactic. They are unbeaten so far in the preseason and the competition here. Two good players were signed: Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera. Luke Shaw clearly one of the most talented players in England and with a bright future. I can't see his future in Manchester United. Van Gaal plays 3-5-2 and his favorite man on the left side is Young so far. I hope the coach won't waste his talent how it was in the Zaha case. Ander Herrera on the other side seems that he will be a very important man for Man Udt this season. He impressed with good performances and was man of the match in the friendly match against LA Galaxy were Man Udt trashed them 7-0.

AS Roma were beaten 2-3, but Manchester had a lead of 3-0. Also it is to say that the 2 goals of Roma were a bit lucky: a 60 meter shot (of course world class but how often happens this) and a penalty. Match against Inter was decided in penalty shoot out after a 0-0 in 90 minutes. Manchester U. won with 3-5 here. Then the match against Real Madrid. Again Red Devils with superb performance but the clean sheet could have been kept because Real scored with a penalty.

I am sure that Man Udt will create enough chances to score and win here because you don't win against the champions league winner Real Madrid (they didn't played with B-squad Bale, Ronaldo (2nd half) ..) if you aren't in good shape. Nevertheless Both teams with solid defensive lines and therefore I will go a bit safer and bet on Manchester United -0,25AH. 1.87 seems to be a good odd to play.

Stephen its clear that they didn't play with full strength squad but this line up "Casillas, Arbeloa, Pepe, Ramos, Nacho, Carvajal, Alonso, Illarramendi, Modric, Bale, Isco" isn't bad too.

Manchester was "only" without Van Persie but several important defensive player left the club (Evra, Vidic, Ferdinand) and I think because of this Man Udt should deserve credit for this great performances so far.
