Gameday 2: FC Liefering - Floridsdorfer AC
In this game the promoted team from the last year will play against one of the promoted teams of this season. Although of this the odds are really easy explained, as Liefering is Red Bull Salzburgs second team, with many young and talented players and Floridsdorfer AC with not with such experienced players on higher level, but with euphoria of promotion on their side.
As I used to keep it last season, to give you an overview about the teams I will copy a bit from my first preview of the season to do this:
"FC Liefering maybe was a big surprise for the most, but the have a squad full of young and talented players from Red Bull academy. Like I expained in an earlier preview Red Bull practises the same tactics in every team and academy around the world so it shouldn´t be so diffcult for the players to find together than in other team, but there are also many new players, like it usually is in such teams. Most players are coming from own U18 team and the own acedemy. Then there are three new players from the cooperating team in Pasching, and one each from RB NY academy, RB Leipzig, LASK, Stadlau and Wacker Innsbruck. Also some players left the club, most into the direction of Austrian Bundesliga, two of example to cooperating team Grödig. Two players are going to RB Leipzig and old hand Rene Aufhauser ends his career and will be co-coach in Liefering. However I think Liefering better gets around with the new players and especially at the beginning of the season, the players will be more motivated, as the transfer window is still open and everyone of them wants to play at RB Salzburg or other RB team in 2nd Bundesliga in Germany. Also Liefering had played some preseason friendlies, to mention: a 4:0 vs Bayern II, 5:0 wins against Regionalliga team from Austria and a 7:3 win vs Duisburg from German 3rd League."
What happened last week? Liefering won the game with ease against Hartberg, just giving us a idea, of how the can play with motivation. Some of you might say, there were two red cards against Hartberg, so it was quite simple for Liefering, but at that time of the match Liefering was 2-0 in the lead and after the second red card Liefering could play with half power. Two goals in this game were scored by Nils Quaschner, who is one of the best players of the team. One or two years ago he was bought from Red Bull for about 800.000€ from Hansa Rostock and he shows his value in every match in Liefering.
Also about the team from Vienna´s 21th district Floridsdorf I wrote a bit last week:
"Floridsdorfer AC, last year known as FAC Team für Wien won the Regionalliga East last year and will fight in Erste Liga to stay there as long as possible. In my opinion a very hard mission for them as the squad is not very strong and unexperienced on such a level. Only players who are new, beside some players from Regionalliga are Aydogdu from Hartberg and Terzic from Bundesliga club Wr Neustadt.
But the preparing games were not that successfull: a 3-5 loss vs Universitatae Cluj, a 0-4 loss vs Wr Neustadt are to mention. The games vs lower league teams Mannsdorf (4th league) and ASK Oberwaltersdorf (6th league or lower...) were won 5-2 and 5-1, but both times conceding a goal."
However, last week they could gain a point in the first game in Austrians 2nd league since over 50 years. Against Lustenau they reached a 0-0, but this was just possible with the unability and uninspired game from Lustenau. They had several chances, but didn´t use them. But if you don´t score the goals... it was possible that this phrase gets true, but also FAC didn´t use chances, which were very few for them.
All in all the euphoria of the promotion is still on the side of FAC, but the quality of the squad and the playing system is on home side. I think Liefering can beat any team in this league, and this even
