Netherlands vs Argentina by Topspin77

Arena Corinthians (São Paulo, São Paulo) will be the host of a tough match in the semifinals of World Cup 2014, Netherlands and Argentina facing each other for a presence in the final act with Germany.

What a shame last night, Brazil was destroyed by Zee Germans and no matter how much I like the Germans in general, I just want Netherlands or Argentina to beat them out - personal opinion.

Netherlands has lost just a single time with Argentina winning 3 times and making 2 draws. They have scored 8 times and have conceded twice.

Argentina has beat Netherlands in 1978 final with Kempes making them champions of the world on their own field. Eben that win came after 90 minutes.

Netherlands is having a splendid coach, a man with a great philosophy and skills, something that Argentina has never had. I am writing about Van Gaal. Seems that Van Persie will play and the rumors spread that he will not play are just a tactic of intimidation.

Game play:

- Argentina played well in defensive after the group stage. They have not dominated the matches as ball possession, but they closed the spaces with Switzerland and Belgium. They managed to score with Belgium with a bizarre goal and after that they played defensively. They will play 4-3-3 with a midfield composed by players that have a defensive profile.

- Holland has played attacking football in every match. They have been good in defensive too, despite having some slow defenders. That might be their problem, though. They will play 3-4-1-2 with a midfield with players that are having attacking profile.

Will be a tough match. I expect cards to show, the match is extremely important and both have players that are not avoiding tough tackles.

The referee is Cuneyt Cakir, one that is showing many cards. He is 37 years old and I expect him to control the match by booking the contacts.

My bet is over 3 cards.

Holland (3-4-1-2): Cillessen – Martins Indi, Vlaar, de Vrij – Blind, Wijnaldum, de Guzmán, Kuyt – Sneijder – Robben, van Persie

Argentina (4-3-3): Romero – Rojo, Garay, Demichelis, Zabaleta – Gago, Mascherano, E. Perez – Lavezzi, Higuaín, Messi.

Hey Topspin!

The average of cards in this World Cup is very little compared to the previous world cups. I cant explain this, maybe the temperature or something, but there are almost half of yellow cards compared to South Africa 2010. Moreover there werent too many cards in the knockout stages by now. And yes, Mr Smith is also right, the final is near and of course noone wants to miss.

Of course, if you are behind and you must score a goal to dont get knocked out frustration will be coming up to the players. But look at the match yesterday: Brazil only got 1 (!!!) yellow card despite the

@Mr Smith

No one will be suspended for the Final as Yellow Cards counter go back to zero after 1/4 final. FIFA done this to avoid players missing the Final in the past due to suspension. So this is a good bet, there is no fear of suspension in the final.

Good Luck
