Argentina vs Belgium by Kamlesh

Argentina are doing well in the World Cup till now by defeating Bosnia-Herzegovina (2-1), Iran (1-0), Nigeria (2-3) and Switzerland (1-0). The team has not been impressive as many would expect but they still have done enough to reach this stage of the competition largely due to the good performances of Lionel Messi and Di Maria. Left-back Marcos Rojo is suspended and forward Aguero is still injured.

Probable Line-Up:

Argentina: Romero (GK); Basanta, Fernandez, Garay, Zabaleta, Gago, Mascherano, Di Maria, Lionel Messi, Lavezzi, Higuain

Belgium, as expected won their group stage matches against Algeria (2-1), Russia (1-0) and Korea Republic (0-1). The team is rather young and inexperienced with youngsters such as striker Origi, midfielder De Bruyne, Hazard, etc but they have been performing well. In the round of 16, they defeated United States (2-1) in extra time but it was a close match with the superb performance of US goalkeeper Tim Howard.

Probable Line-Up:

Belgium: Courtois (GK); Alderweireid, Buyten, Kompany, Vertonghen, Witsel, Dembele, Mirallas, Bruyne, Hazard, Origi

In my opinion, Argentina have much more potential to do better and the main reason why they have not been performing as expected is because the teams they played against had an ultra-defensive philosophy and the attacking forwards of Argentina could not find space to break down the defence as their opponents would have been satisfied with a draw.

However, against Belgium, they will find more space to move the ball as the Belgium coach Wilmots has said he will stick to his attacking philosophy against Argentina. From my point of view, this will make their defence vulnerable and players like Lionel Messi, Di Maria, Lavezzi, Higuain could easily exploit these weaknesses. Argentina as well is not good at defending and Belgium may well score but in the end I think Argentina will come out as winners because they have more quality in attack.
