Uruguay vs Costa Rica by Kamlesh

Uruguay start the World Cup in good mood and form as they are undefeated in their last 6 international matches in all competitions (including friendlies). They have been solid defensively as they conceded only 4 goals in those games, with 3 clean sheets and they have been efficient in attack, scoring 12 goals in this process. Striker Luis Suarez is still unfit, otherwise they will be at full strength. In attack, they still have lots of quality with striker Edinson Cavani (PSG), forward Stuani (Espanyol) and experienced Diego Forlan.

The coach has already announced the line-up he will use against Costa Rica and it is as follows:

Uruguay: Muslera (GK); M.Pereira, Lugano, Godín, Cáceres, Gargano, A.Ríos, Stuani, Rodríguez, Forlán, Cavani

Costa Rica are in a very difficult group and it seems impossible for them to go to the next round as they have to face three World Champions (Uruguay, England, Italy). Besides, their squad lacks quality to be able to compete against them. Their performances in friendlies were very poor as they won only once in 6 friendly games played, drew once and lost 5 of them, conceding at least 1 goal in all of them, which highlights their poor defence. Nevertheless, they have a good goalkeeper in the name of Keylor Navas (Levante). However, alone, he cannot stop the opponents from scoring as the defence is not well equipped. Also, they are missing their key defender Bryan Oviedo, full back Heiner Mora and experienced forward Alvaro Saborio.

Probable Line-Up:

Costa Rica: Navas (GK); Gonzalez, Umana, Acosta, Diaz, Gamboa, Tejeda, Borges, Ruiz, Bolanos, Joel Campbell

Only winning matters here for Uruguay as the other two games against England and Italy will be very difficult. As such, expect them to go all out for the win as the coach said. Besides, Uruguay play attacking football and they have also lined up a much attacking formation in this game. With Costa Rica having a poor defence, it's difficult to see anything except an easy win for Uruguay. Costa Rica have lost their last four games at the World Cup, conceding 14 goals and they have also lost all three previous World Cup meetings with South American sides, conceding 9 goals in this process. Moreover, Uruguay have never lost against Costa Rica in eight meetings.

From a betting perspective, I think Uruguay will win both the first half and the second half.
