Italy vs Netherlands by JerryDrake

Highest Finishing Position Team Match-Up

This is a bet on which team will finish at a higher position at the World Cup. Rule applies as follows at Marathonbet: „If level then decided in this order: stage of elimination, group position, group points, tournament goal difference, tournament goals scored“.

I know my national team. It is the team that never wins the friendlies, the team where you never know who will play because we live now in 2014 and not in 1982 where you could say by heart: Zoff, Gentile, Cabrini, Oriali, Collovati, Scirea ... as the most of the line-ups used to start with these players.

Now we can say „Buffon, Darmian, Barzagli, Chiellini“ or maybe „Buffon, De Sciglio, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini“. Who knows?

But Italy is also a team that can suffer under any condition and get the best out of it, like in the United States in 1994.

In the past when Italy won a World Cup, the successive World Cup was a failure. In 1982 Italy won the World Cup in Spain and in 1986 we saw a very weak team in Mexico, defeated 0-2 by France in the Round of 16 in a match where I can not even remember a single chance for Italy.

In 2006 Italy won the World Cup in Germany (although the team was not as strong as in 1982). In 2010 it came the failure when Italy drew all of their games with Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia and where Pepe was seen as the new Bruno Conti or Roberto Donadoni by coach Lippi. But what happened in 1990? After the failure of 1986 we saw in 1990 a great team where only some mistakes made by former coach Vicini did not allow Italy to reach the final (Baggio was not in the starting line-up with Argentina, same mistake made by Cesare Maldini in 1998 when Baggio did not start against France).

The hard step for Italy will be the group stage. Here, as usual, I expect a real war for Italy which will surely struggle with all of the teams, even with Costa Rica. But at the end Italy should qualify. Netherlands should qualify more easily than Italy. The decisive thing for this bet is the „stage of elimination“.

I imagine that Holland will arrive 2nd in Group B behind Spain. If so, they will have to face Brazil, a kind of „mission impossible“ although everything is always possible. If Italy arrive first they will probably face Greece, Cote d'Ivoire or Japan in the Round of 16, I think Japan. Another possibility is that Italy will reach the 2nd place in the group. Then, they could face Colombia. Colombia are difficult to beat, but easier than Brazil, above all without Falcao (the Colombian one).

So, taken for granted that both will qualify, I see a easier way for Italy to the Quarter Finals. If Holland want to make a long World Cup, they must arrive first in their group but I dont know if Spain will allow it.

Italy is a team when facing a big team like England, like Spain or Germany they transfered to big player when they facing costa rica , luxemburg they dont give up to play strong , so i think Italy can go te the final.

Italiy 0-1 costa rica why is this bad? Now 0-0 against Uruguay and then they start with full fitness into the playoffs. Italy never looks good still they won the world cup in 2006.
Italy is like chelsea.
