Group stage vs Chile by JerryDrake

In the Group B of the World Cup Spain and Netherlands are favorite to qualify to next stage. The winner will probably avoid Brazil if we take for granted that Brazil will arrive first in their group. Spain and Holland will probably decide the first and second place in the first encounter as they meet each other.

Chile should start with a victory with Australia but then they will have it difficult in the 2nd and 3rd game where they will play with Spain first and Holland in the last game. The match between Holland and Chile on June 23 could be decisive for the qualification.

Until some weeks ago Chile had much more chances to qualify. With the injury suffered by Arturo Vidal things are not so sure anymore. It is not sure if he will be available and how fit will he be after recovering from his injury. Chile can count on a great attack (Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas) but the defense could at the end not be strong enough to avoid two defeats with Spain and Holland. Chile conceded 25 goals in the qualification stage, 9 more than Ecuador and only 1 less than Peru.

Netherlands are stronger than Chile and for me it will be Spain and Netherlands to qualify. Still, I will sing „Chile Chile Chile Salas Salas Salas Mata Mata-dor“ (even without Salas, this chant is wonderful). My betting has nothing to do with my personal sympathy for the teams, I hope the readers understand this. If Chile want to qualify, they must beat Australia in the first match and Spain in the second match and not wait for the third match.

Very nice tip. :-) Spain is strong, Netherlands ambitious and motivated. Nothing else.

I think Chile is really strong and can surprise Holland easily. They are motivated and they have a good attacking section (As well as Holland). But I don't trust the Holland defenders and I think they don't have enough creativity on midfield.
Another motivation factor for Chile is Vidal's come-back from his injury.
Netherlands didn't convince me at all.

Yes, your point is also a good point. But what about Chile defense and GK? I dont know much but I think they are also not so solid and strong. Let me know.

Jerry, this tip might be with a larger odd. Your tip is against Chille, and Australia will not qualified for Round of 16, I am sure. So tip "Group dual forecast"- Nedherlands and Spain is little bit higher odd (1.95). I am just saying, if you want pick "Chille to qualify: no", better pick is this :)

I've just read that Chile will be the team with the highest number of fans in Brazil (excluded Brazil): 70.000 fans from Chile will visit Brazil only to watch one of the three group games. I start having big doubts on this bet.

@JerryDrake - Fans will not win any game... South Africa did not made it in 2010 and Chile will not made it 2014. Universidad de Chile would not be strong enough to play in champions league, many players from Chile come from U.d.Chile. Spain and Netherlands proofed their defense forces.

spain football is outdatet. same players for 10 years, same tactics, look how barcelona (with most of players of national team and the same tactic) ended in league and champ. league. -failed. opponents learn how to play against, also netherlands are overrated weak defence and just individual players in attack, no teamplay. australia on every world cup is strong and reach playoff consistently. call me a freak, but i guess chile and australia will qualify

That would be a big surprise, odds for Chile and Australia to qualify? Everything is possible.

I underestimated Chile. About Soain: many players played the CL final some weeks ago. They were all without energies in Brazil. Pity to see Spain eliminated in the group phase.
