Bayern vs Real Madrid by Kamlesh

Real-Madrid
Bayern have an amazing home record, losing only twice since the start of the season. The first home defeat came against Manchester City in the group stage but Bayern Munich were careless in the match as they thought they had already qualified. The second home defeat came against Dortmund but Bayern Munich have already won the Bundesliga and as such, the motivation to give their best in the league keeps decreasing. The only competition that matters the most for them now is the Champions League. Midfielder Thiago (16/2), midfielder Shaqiri (17/6) and second gk Starke (2/0) are expected to be missing.

Real Madrid have been decent this season as they won the Copa Del Rey against an inconsistent Barcelona side. Nevertheless, they are still lagging behind Atletico Madrid in La Liga. After spending so much money on world class players like Bale, Isco and Illarramendi, the expectations are very high. If they don't win either the Spanish league title or the Champions League, their season will be considered as a disappointment. The away performances of Real Madrid have not been convincing lately. In fact, they lost to Dortmund in the second leg of the quarter finals of the Champions League and Ancelotti said after the game; "We are very lucky to be in the semi finals". They also lost against Sevilla in the league despite having Ronaldo and Bale on the pitch. From what I have seen in recent matches, there is a lack of coordination between these two players. Ronaldo clearly shows his frustration against Bale when he does not pass him the ball. For tonight, defender Arbeloa (16/0), defensive midfielder Khedira (11/1) and forward Rodriguez (18/5) will be missing.

In the first leg between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, the Spanish decided to play defensive despite being at home. Both teams had good chances to score and in my opinion, the match could have gone either way. Bayern Munich did not play badly but they were just lacking that final touch. Undoubtedly, Real Madrid have more individual skills in their squad. But individual players do not win you trophies, teams win you trophies. This is what Guardiola's teams usually do. They play much better as a team with their passing and possession game but Real Madrid usually rely mostly on individual skills.

Another thing to point out is that Guardiola hates losing and most of the time when he finds his team in a crucial situation, you will see his players starting their diving antics in an attempt to send off the opponent's player. Barcelona have been doing this type of play-acting under his leadership and Bayern Munich also have been doing this, especially Robben. On the other side, Real Madrid have very aggressive players like Pepe and Ramos. They are famous for getting themselves booked by the referee. Don't be surprised if Real Madrid end up playing with 10 men in the match. Besides, Bayern Munich will definitely keep possession of the ball and it will be up to Real Madrid to show defensive discipline in order to stop the devastating attacking set up by Bayern Munich.

Home advantage will also be key to motivate the Bayern Munich players to defeat Real Madrid. History also favours the Germans as they are undefeated in their last 8 home matches against Real Madrid in all competitions. In my opinion, Bayern Munich will do enough to qualify for the final of the Champions League.
