Nara vs Begu by Tennisguy

This is a first round match from the Oeiras WTA tournament(clay) between Kurumi Nara from Japan and Irina Begu from Romania.

Nara is ranked 45 and Begu 117. They haven't met in a direct match before.

Nara is 5-0 on the tour this year on clay courts and these wins brought her the title at the Rio de Janeiro tournament. She is good player that moves incredibly well on the court and makes a lot of good countershots. She hasn't got the best service as she is a very short player at 1.58 m but really compensates with a very good court awareness.

Begu is 22-3 on clay courts this year but mostly played ITF tournaments. She also played in the Rio de Janeiro where Nara won and lost in the quarterfinals stage. Here she had to play in the qualif. rounds to progress to the main draw. She defeated Claudia Gaspar 6-0, 6-0, Oksana Kalashnikova 6-3, 6-1 and Kiki Bertens 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. In her last match against Bartens she really struggled to get in the match and for the first set it looked like she was having some physical problems. She did manage to recover well and turn that match around but overall the impression was not that good. If she does the same thing against Nara I doubt that she will have any chances.

I guess Begu on a good day can dominate a lot of players on the tour but with the way she looked in her last match that is probably not going to happen against Nara. Nara is a very good defensive player and will frustrate the romanian a lot by returning a lot of shots. I personally don't think that Begu is physically prepared for another long match like the one against Bertens so she will force a lot of shots which will result in committing many unforced errors.

I think Nara will manage to edge this one because she is going to probably be in a much better shape then her opponent.
