Young vs Kokkinakis by Tennisguy
This is a match from the first tour of the Tallahassee challenger tournament(clay) between Donald Young from USA and Thanasi Kokkinakis from Australia.
Young is ranked 81 and Kokkinakis 387. They have never met in a h2h match before.
The main reason why I think Kokkinakis can win in this match is beacuse Young looked really bad in his last match that he played. He was defeated by Yoshihito Nishioka last week in the Savannah challenger 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 and really struggled especially in the physical department.
Kokkinakis is a young player who look promising in the future. He is a tall player at 1.96 m with a strong service and a pretty decent forehand. He likes to go for a lot of winners and likes to dictate the way a point is played. That has it's bad signs as he ends up committing a little bit to much unforced errors, so that's a department where he needs to work on as his game develops.
Young had a good run at the Houston ATP tournament but after that he kind of took a step down and didn't even try to go for the big tournaments. Also loosing to Nishioka in the first tour of the Savannah challenger last week didn't help his moral. I think he might have some physical problems though because he wasn't running like his usual self in that match. He is a more defensive player that relies a lot on his physical condition and if he isn't in top shape today against an aggressive player like Kokkinakis he might find himself in a lot of problems.
Young is the favorite because he is better ranked and has had some good matches this year but I think there is value in backing Kokkinakis in this one. Sure if young shows the type of form he shows a month ago in Houston than he is going to win this match for sure but after seeing his last match I really don't think that is going to happen.
I think Kokkinakis is more than capable of producing an upset in this match so I pick him to win.
