Partizan vs Crvena zvezda by Sharingham

Partizan
VS
Crvena-zvezda
This is one of the biggest derby matches in Europe. Two great rivals are meeting on Partizan stadium in Saturday. Red Star has 6-point lead, 5 rounds before the end of the season. So, this is crucial game for both teams. But, difference is in fact that Partizan must win to still have a chance for the title.

Hosts are in shock after defeat in last round vs Napredak. That game was really hard to play for them, Napredak played great defense with counterattacks. Along with that, PFC Captain and legend Sasa Ilic, deserved yellow card and will miss a derby.

They play variable in second part of season. Since Nikolic was appointed for first coach they have 7-2-1, which is good result but they didn’t much impressed with the performances. Generally, there is an inference that new coach is not “for great results”. He was doing god job with previous two teams, but leading team in every match with pressure of win, which is a case In Partizan, it seems that there is not enough experience to do that. Combination of youth and experience is present in squad of PFC. Ilic (36), Drincic (30), Lazovic (31), Obradovic (35), Volkov (28) are players with international careers and Ninkovic (19), Zivkovic (17), Skuletic (23) are players who are quite expected in future. Since Ilic is missing, Drincic will be the most important midfielder and instead of captain will probably be Ninkovic. Defense line is with two fast fullbacks (Volkov, Vulicevic) and two strong center backs (Trajkovic, Obradovic) and that is what opponent teams use as advantage with fast strikers in counterattacks. Currently there is only one option in attack, Skuletic, with support of Zivkovic and Luka.

Red Star has run of 15 wins. The fact is that in a couple of matches opponents has “a lack of access” to the game, which is “normal” in serbian football, both for RS and PFC. Red Star has compact team bringing defenders Pavicevic and Kelhar, since the defence was their big problem in first part of season. They conceded only 5 goals with them, and in first part 15. In addition, RS they gave the highest score so far, 54. Full backs Mijailovic and Petkovic were rested in previous round and will be fit for match. Midfielders are Milijas, playmaker Ninkovic, DM is Kovacevic and by right line is Lazović. Mrdja is league top scorer and its sure in setup. Coach Stojanovic is playing with two strikers, but I think that he will start with either Pecnik on left either Kasalica whose speed can be used on flank. It is less likely to start with striker Dauda, who missed last few games during the injure.

I’m expecting careful game of Red Star with less risk, and attacking style of Partizan. In the past meetings of these two teams, that resulted with good score for those team who do not have to chase the result. Red Star is successful over the last few derbies and I think that they will use creativity of Ninkovic and Lazovic and fast strikers to decide the championchip.

My pick: DNB Red Star

Thanks Lowston. I made one mistake, forgot to mention second striker of PFC, Danko Lazović (4/2), who will probably be in start lineup.
