Sharapova vs Outright Winner by Tennisguy

This is the Stuttgart WTA tournament(clay) and I believe that the outright winner will be Maria Sharapova. She has won two years in a row so far and she will be very determined to do it against as she need to keep her points due to her fall in the rankings.

In the last 4 year Sharapova has a record of 48-5 on clay court surfaces and in the last two years she only lost to Serena Williams on this surface so it's safe to say that she has grown very fond to clay courts. She is considered the favorite by the bookies to win here, and I am referring in terms of odds not by the way the players are seeded. In that department she is the nr.6 seed because she has fallen in the rankings lately due to her absence last year.

Sharapova has already played her first round match against Lucie Safarova and had a lot of problems as she won 7-6(5), 6-7(5), 7-6(2). It was kind of a strange match but Safarova played very well and made this a very tight encounter. History might repeat itself as last year Maria also won against Safarova in the first round in a very tight 3 setter.

The only players I see challenging Shaparova would be Kerber and Radwanska(in the h2h Sharapova is 8-2 against Radwanska and 4-1 against Kerber) and maybe Halep. Halep is considered with the second chance by the bookies in terms of odds but she had an injury which forced her to retire from recent tournament so I don't know how fit she will come back especially considering this is her first clay court tournament of the year.

The odds are really good for Sharapova to win and she usually plays her best tennis here in Stuttgart so I am expecting her to defend her title for a 3d year in a row.
