Barcelona vs Real Madrid by JerryDrake
Copa del Rey Final, Stadium Mestalla (Valencia)
Things can only get worse
Things are going well and can go even better for Real Madrid. Since they lost their match with Barcelona a couple of weeks ago (3-4) with the complicity of the referee, Real Madrid qualified to the Champions League semifinals. In the Primera División they are now one point behind Atlético Madrid.
Things can only get worse for Barcelona: they were eliminated in Champions League by Atlético Madrid and they lost also in Granada in the Liga. In their last two games they have not scored and the defense has shown many limits without regular goalkeeper Valdés and central defender Piqué. Messi was completely absent in the pitch and Spanish newspapers started writing on the possible substitution of coach Martino with German trainer Klopp.
Titles and finals
Barcelona played 6 finals in Valencia and won 4: the only time Real lost to Barcelona in Valencia it was at another stadium, Luis Casanova. At Stadium Mestalla Real Madrid lost to Espanyol in 1929, won in 1993 with Zaragoza and won with Barcelona in 2011 as written above.
Barcelona are the team with the most number of Copa del Rey titles: the Azulgrana played 36 finals winning 26 and losing 10. Real Madrid won 18 and lost 20 and in this titles' standing they follow also Athletic Bilbao with 23 titles.
Casillas play, Real win
Casillas played only one Copa del Rey final while he was the second goalkeeper in three other finals: in these finals Real Madrid won only with Casillas as goalkeeper, it was when Real won their last Copa del Rey in 2011: and like tomorrow, it was in Valencia at Mestalla Stadium and it was against Barcelona. In 2002 he saw his team losing to Deportivo 1-2 with Sánchez at his place, in 2004 Real Madrid lost to Real Zaragoza with César and last season Real lost again to Atlético Madrid 1-2 at Santiago Bernabeu with Diego López.
Ancelotti: 6 cups in Italy and England
In the season 2002-2003 Carlo Ancelotti won the Italy Cup with his Milan after defeating Roma. Between the two finals he also prepared and won the Champions League final where Milan defeated Juventus: this was the first „doblete“ for Ancelotti in his carreer as coach. In England he won his second national cup when his Chelsea defeated Portsmouth in the FA Cup and complete his second „doblete“ as his team won also the Premier League title.
This season Real Madrid have still chances to win three titles: the Spanish league title, the Spanish cup, and the Champions League. Ancelotti will try to win his first „triplete“. As Roma player he won 4 Italy Cups (1980, 1981, 1984 and 1986) in 8 seasons.
Waiting for the eterno Capitán
Carles Puyol, 36 years old, has played 5 league games this season: 1 draw and 4 wins. He has played 6 games in Copa del Rey and Barcelona won all of them: 2 wins with Cartagena, 2 wins with Getafe and 2 wins with Levante. Due to his knee injuries Barcelona have lost their captain for almost the entire season. He promised his team colleagues that he will try to be ready for this final although he admitted that it will be very difficult.
I have already written about the problems with the injured defenders for Barcelona. Real Madrid will miss the same players they miss since weeks plus Cristiano Ronaldo who will miss the final. The referee will be Mateu Lahoz, with him Real won the Supercup final against Barcelona in 2012.
I have read somewhere some days ago that if Barcelona win they will keep this throphy as it already happened other times. I dont know exactly if a team must win 5 or 10 in order to keep a throphy. Fact is that this is another good reason for their main rivals Real to do their best to defeat Barcelona. With Messi and Neymar you can never know if you win or lose the bet. With the ones w
