Plans for next season

The Primera División has become one of the most interesting leagues in the world. With the results held by Atletico Madrid this year things are getting even more interesting because the egemony and exclusivity of Barcelona and Real Madrid has come to an end, at least for this season. Elche is one of the teams which want to book their participation in the Liga also next year. For this, they need to get at least 5 or 6 more points in the last 6 games.

European dreams

Valencia are too far away from a Europa League spot: with 41 points they are 11 points behind Villarreal and 10 behind Real Sociedad. This does not mean that their European dream has come to an end. They defeated Basel 5-0 in the extra time after losing by 3 in Switzerland. In the semifinals (Apr. 24 and May 1st) they will face Sevilla. Now they need to get back their energy after the marathon they made just 3 days ago. Valencia are stronger than Elche but probably they will be more tired.

Injury lists

Valencia will be without defenders Senderos (6/0), Victor Ruiz (11/1), Mathieu (28/2) and goalkeeper Diego Alves (24 app.). Elche will miss strikers Manu del Moral (19/2) and Carles Gil (29/1), midfield player Niguez (20/1) as well as defender Albácar (17/3). Lombán (defender, 24/1) recovered and is available together with Aarón Niguez.

Valencia lost only once in their last 7 home games when they met Getafe (1-3) just days before the Europa League match in Basel. Elche have never won in their last 8 away games but they succeeded in defeating Valencia in the first match played in Elche. Last and only time Elche won at Mestalla was 49 years ago.

El partido de nuestra vida

Elche coach Fran Escribá is not afraid to declare this game as „the match of our lives“. It will be also for the Elche fans as 3.000 fans are expected to reach Valencia to support their team. As regars to the fact that Valencia could be tired, Escribá stated: „They have a large squad and it will not be a problem for them. I am happy that they qualified to next round, this is a good result for Spanish football“.

My bet

In the next 6 games Elche will have to meet also Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla, all teams against which is difficult to get points as they fight for the title and for the Champions League spot. Given the possible lack of condition of Valencia and the will of Elche and their fans to win this regional derby I select „Elche AH+1“ with full stake.
