Sassuolo vs Cagliari by JerryDrake

Sassuolo
VS
Cagliari
SASSUOLO - CAGLIARI

Match ball number 1

With 7 points advantage over the relegation Cagliari are almost sure to play in Serie A next season. They will play 4 games on the road and 2 at home: Sassuolo A, Genoa A, Parma H, Napoli A, Chievo H, Juventus H. Cagliari need still 3 or 4 points. In the last 6 Cagliari lost 5.

There is always a first time

Sassuolo were very close to relegation before they won in Bergamo. Now they have 24 points, 1 less than Livorno and 3 less than Chievo and Bologna. Livorno will host Chievo and then it will be Sassuolo to visit Chievo. If they want to play in Serie A also next season they must win at least 3 of the next 6 games: Cagliari H, Chievo A, Juventus H, Fiorentina A, Genoa H, Milan A. The three must-win-games are with Cagliari, Chievo and Genoa. Sassuolo never won two consecutive games this season and Di Francesco will look for the „first time“.

Driving a Fiat Cinquecento

Cagliari president Cellino became the new Leeds owner and he stated some days ago: „Now I am driving a Ferrari, for many years I drove a Fiat Cinquecento“. Cagliari captain Daniele Conti (26/4) reacted by stating that he is proud to drive a Cinquecento. In the meanwhile coach Lopez has been fired and substituted by Pulga who was co-trainer with Lopez until some months ago.

Injury problems

Many missing players for both teams. Sassuolo will miss suspended defender Cannavaro and injured defenders Bianco, Terranova and Acerbi as well as midfield players Brighi and Marrone. Cagliari are without strikers Pinilla and Nené as well as midfield players Ekdal (22/1) and Vecino (9/2). Cossu will once again start from the bench. He has been the light of the midfield since 2007 for Cagliari with many assists but Pulga will probably not count on him.

Young guns

The destiny of Sassuolo will be decided by their young strikers Zaza (27/6), Berardi (24/12) and Sansone (7/3). Cagliari will have after long time Marco Sau (25/5) in the starting eleven together with Ibarbo (born 1990, 25/3) and Ibraimi (19/1). Sansone was decisive in Bergamo (2-0 against Atalanta) while Berardi and Zaza have disappointed recently, Berardi more than Zaza. Maybe the fact that Prandelli invited both to the Italian national team tests can give them a new motivation. Ariaudo was doubt but he should be available in the Sassuolo defense together with Antei.

My bet

I am aware of the fact that odds dropped down a little for Cagliari (even though their last away victory was in Pescara 14 months ago) and that it is difficult to score against Cagliari when they defend in their away games. But I like Sassuolo and their young strikers, and if I lose money or units I prefer by having done own mistakes instead of following the odds market. If they want to play in Verona with the best psychological conditions they must win today. My correct score: 2-1 Sansone, Zaza, Conti
