Ried vs Wacker Innsbruck by Goleador

Austria, Bundesliga

SV Ried - FC Wacker Innsbruck

Tomorrow there is the last chance for both team. Ried is six points behind 3rd place, which would mean an Europa League qualification spot. If they want to keep up their chance a win would be a must. Wacker Innsbruck is 12 points behind 9th place with five games left to play. So the team from Tirol is almost relegated and has to think about the future in Erste Liga.

SV Ried: Europa League: but how?

There aren´t many options in Austria to get a place for Euro League qualification. 2nd and 3rd place and Cup-Win would mean to reach this goal. In Bundesliga there position isn´t ideal. Ried is 6 points behind third Austria Wien and Ried has a very difficult programme left to play. So the other option is the Cup. If Salzburg will reach the final here (which is very likely) the contender in Cup-Final will reach the Europa League qualification as well. For this goal two Bundesliga team, Ried and Sturm want fighting for, but much depends on the drawing for the semifinals. With a bit luck, Ried could face a second or third league team here (Horn vs Amstetten, both concetrating on league play one Quarterfinal).

So what do I want to say? Ried won´t play at full power as they face St Pölten in Cup during next week with the only opportunity to reach EL Quali through Cup. Ried has played draw two times. Against Austria Wien they played most times with one man up and scored one illegal goal, as there was an obvious foul against Austria Keeper Lindner, but the referee didn´t react. The 1-1 vs Wr Neustadt was performance-linked, maybe with better chances for Ried, who were far better in first half. In second half they were only dangerous after set-pieces and Wr. Neustadt was better team than.

The problem of the many injured players is becoming a bit better. Walch and Trauner should be on the bench again, Janeczek could start from the beginning. Missing: A. Schicker (DEF/21/1) (suspended), Gartler (ATT/28/15, bestscorer), Ziegl (MID/14/0), Wieser (MID/11/0), Riegler (DEF/16/0), Reiter (DEF/0/0), Reifeltshammer (DEF/25/0)(injured). The only new injured player here is topscorer Gartler how scored about a third of Rieds goals this season and 15 of 37 goals from the players, who are in th squad at the time (e.g. Zulj (9 goals) left the club).

Wacker Innsbruck: The way leads down to Erste Liga

In the current situation, with 12 points behind securing place nine, and five games left to play the relegation is almost fix. The club is planning for the next season one league lower in Erste Liga. Many good players will leave the club, like topscorer Hinterseer (ATT/30/12). Also Szabolcs Sáfár, Tomáš Abrahám, Stjepan Vuleta, Bright Edomwonyi and Egoitz Jaio, Christoph Saurer and also Michael Steinlechner and Stipe Vucur, their contract only is for Bundesliga. So the squad for next season will change. Coach Streiter said he wants to test some new players, which are also available next season to see, how the team works with them. So maybe Hinterseer will be replaced by Gründler. Also some other young pros should start tomorrow. Siller (DEF/20/0), Hamzic (ATT/6/0, more games for 2nd team), Nitzlnader (DEF/3/0, more games for 2nd team), Bergmann (DEF/28/0) are missing.

My Pick

In the last games of Wacker 7 of nine were under and this is also my pick for this game. The biggest reason is also Rieds most important missing: Rene Gartler is the best scorer of Ried, and one of the best in Bundesliga. Now he is missing and there is no edequate replacement for him. I expect a nervous games, as both team will have to make some chances, Ried maybe will rest some players for more important cup game, Wacker coach will give some other players an opportunity to prepare for next season.
