Hanescu vs Del Bonis by Tennisguy
Hanescu is ranked 89 and Delbonis 43. They have met once in 2011 in the special Bundesliga tournament on clay court where Hanescu won 6-1, 7-6.
In this tournament Hanescu won against Hicham Khaddari 7-6(3), 6-3 and Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-4. He played very well in both matches especially in the second where he eliminated the nr.1 seeded player of this tournament. Sure Anderson is not the best clay court player but he is in a good form lately, and if we consider the fact that last year he was in the 4th round of the French Open than he is probably not that bad of a clay court player after all. Hanescu played very well in the important points against Anderson and managed to produce a lot of variety on his shots. I have to mention that Hanescu is really fond of this tournament and managed some good results in the past. He reached the final here in 2010 and in 2011 he was in the semis so he really likes to play here in Casablanca.
Dlebonis is a good rising player that made some good results on clay last year and also in this start of 2014. He played in the first round here against Gilles Simon who he defeated 6-4, 6-4 and then won in the second round against Filip Peliwo 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-4. His first match against Simon was quite easy because the frenchman is in really bad shape but then against Peliwo he found himself in a lot of problems. He won the first set easy in that match but then his game just dropped a lot and he didn't seem to concentrate so much. Sure he did win the match but that could be problematic for him against an experienced player like Victor Hanescu.
I think the odds are a little bit high for Hanescu and I really believe he has a big chance here if he plays his cards right. He is a veteran with a lot of experience in the circuit, and given his good results in the past at this tournament, along with the fact that he already has a victory against Delbonis could make this a fairly good bet.
